Bulletin No 51 octobre 2024 On November 1 , 1954, the French colonial power in Algeria was awakened by the shock caused by 70 attacks committed in some thirty cities in Algeria, the toll of which rose to 10 deaths. On November 1 , the National Liberation Front (FLN), which organized this series of attacks against the colonial power, published a manifesto [1] signifying its willingness to fight until Algeria's independence.
This day, which was described by all the politicians in France as the Red All Saints ' Day , opened the way to a war of independence that ended, after 132 years of French colonization, on July 5, 1962 with Algerian independence [2] . The colonial war led by the French state was particularly bloody and the repression against the Algerian people fighting for their legitimate rights caused the death of hundreds of thousands of combatants and civilians.
The worst methods of torture, deportation of the population to concentration camps were used by the colonial forces. In his book, The Question [3] Henry Alleg [4] denounced torture. The book was immediately censored and republished by the Swiss publisher Nils Andersson [5] .
Our party has devoted several articles to the Algerian War of Independence and has paid public tribute to the Algerian people's national liberation struggle for the 60th anniversary of the declaration of the country's independence [6] . Today, and this has everything to do with the way the ruling classes deal with the Palestinian question and those who support the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people, we want to recall how their politicians and their media dealt with this historical moment that ended with the victory of the Algerian patriots. Because, despite the lies and the repression, it is the right of the Algerian people that has triumphed. The Revue d'Histoire Militaire [7] sums up the situation well by writing: " in 1954, whether it is the French government, the press, or French intellectuals, no one conceives the possibility of [Algerian] independence .
What did the President of the Council at the time (Mendés France) and his Minister of the Interior (François Mitterrand) say? On November 12, Pierre Mendé France spoke before the National Assembly: "There will be no hesitation, no procrastination, no half-measures on the part of the government in the measures it will take to ensure security and respect for the law. There will be no consideration for sedition, no compromise with it, everyone here and there must know this. The criminal will of a few men must be met with repression without weakness because it is without injustice. There is no compromise when it comes to defending the internal peace of the Nation, the unity, the integrity of the Republic. The departments of Algeria constitute a part of the French Republic. They have been French for a long time and in an irrevocable manner. " As for François Mitterrand, he declared: " Algeria is France and France will not recognize any authority in it other than its own ." On November 5, before the Interior Committee, he stated: " The only negotiation is war ." The bourgeois press is not left behind, Le Monde of November 2nd headlines: "Nothing can be done under threat or under terrorist blackmail ". L'Aurore : " The terrorists are taking action in Algeria ". Le Figaro : " Wave of terrorism in Algeria ". France soir : " Sudden outbreak of terrorism in Algeria ". L e Journal d'Alger : " Yesterday, series of terrorist attacks in Algeria ". For its part, L'Echo d'Alger takes up François Mitterrand's statement on its front page and announces: " A real operation to clean up the Aurès will begin in a few days ".
As the revolutionary youth who support the national liberation struggle of the Palestinian people shout: " Algeria has won, Vietnam has won, Palestine will win". So there is still room in the dustbins of history for the supporters of colonialism and apartheid!
