After the United Arab Emirates, Barhain is to formalize its relations with Israel through diplomatic recognition. They follow on from older ones with Egypt and Jordan, and they certainly precede others with Sudan.

The Trump administration is sponsoring these new "historic breakthroughs"; the agreements are being signed this week in Washington and are part of the US "Vision for Peace" plan. Proof, if any were needed, that the US has a strategy for the Middle and Near East. These recognitions do not mean that those Arab states that have not yet taken the step, and especially Saudi Arabia, have hostile relations to Israel. Far from it, the ties were established long ago. These diplomatic recognitions will accelerate the processes of political, economic and defense exchanges; they will amplify the active presence of Israel in Africa and not only on the security level but also on the economic level, particularly in the agro-food fields.
This development of the situation did not come on a "whim" but reflects a logical development in a region where the redefinition of the balance of power within imperialism is undergoing radical change as we have previously written:

In reality, for US imperialism and its long-standing allies, it is all about enabling Israel and most of the Arab states to form an imperialist alliance that would thwart Turkish and Iranian ambitions for domination. Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia form the three second-tier powers that aspire to a prominent place in the region in the service of the interests of their monopoly bourgeoisie. Given the weight of these realities, the interests and rights of the Palestinian people were quickly swept under the carpet, which unquestionably places the Palestinian people in a state of weakness. But beyond the regional aims, alliances with other imperialist powers are targeted, especially those that link Russia and China to the states of the region. It is in the contradictions within the imperialist powers, including those of the European Union that Turkey is trying to slip in to increase its energy and military control capacities, especially in Syria and Libya. The sabre-rattling and the skirmishes in the Mediterranean between Turkey and Greece, both members of NATO, over the definition of maritime areas and the future exploitation of energy reserves, show to what extent the interests of the monopolies prevail. France, by siding with Greece with the sale of Mirages and its naval presence in the Mediterranean, is de facto part of the imperialist alliance dominated by the United States. The peoples of the region, the peoples of Europe and the world have nothing to gain from aligning with their imperialism. They must fight it, demand a just peace for the peoples and especially the recognition of their legitimate rights as the Palestinian people do. By denouncing the maneuvers of imperialism we are helping to rally together and fight against the capitalist system at the root of these situations.
